Best Value High-End Crossbow: Flatline 460 at $2,599

Overview

The TenPoint Flatline 460 is a powerful reverse-draw crossbow that takes weight, size, and power to a new level. Undeniably high-end, it is ideally well suited to hunters who are looking for the edge when it comes to maneuverability, accuracy, and range.

Features

The Flatline 460 features TenPoint’s newly designed scope strut that is designed to have 80% increased durability. Now you can maneuver your crossbow in the tightest overgrowth without worrying about snagging and damaging your scope.

The standard scope is a great option up to 100 yards. It has an included level to ensure your bow is level – especially important for ranges above 50 yards.

The Flatline 460 is the latest reverse-draw crossbow from the pioneers of this technology. It features the highest FPS of any other reverse-draw crossbow while still being quieter than forward-draw bows.

Finally, it comes equipped with TenPoint’s patented ACUslide cocking system.

Specs

  • Weight: 7.5 lbs
  • Velocity: 460 FPS
  • Finish: Veil Alpine Camo
  • Length: 26.5”
  • Width (uncocked): 7.5”
  • Width (cocked): 12”
  • Power Stroke: 13.5”

Benefits

The Flatline 460 features one of the longest power strokes of any reverse-draw crossbow on the market. Combining this with the custom 16” arrows results in a highly controlled shot and a very high level of accuracy.

Drawbacks

The newly designed scope struts are not backwards compatible with the previous systems meaning that you cannot use parts on older TenPoint models.

Best Value Mid-Range Crossbow: Viper 430 at $1,699

Overview

The 2023 Viper 430 is an upgrade to the previous Viper model with improved long-range accuracy and increased speed of 430 FPS.

Features

New for 2023 is an improved scope strut with 80% increase in strength. This may not seem like such a big deal but a rock-solid scope rail adds to your peace of mind when scoping your target, especially in difficult-to-maneuver areas. The standard scope has also been upgraded to the new Rangemaster 100 scope giving you improved accuracy for aim points out to 100 yards.

The Viper 430 also features TenPoint’s most advanced cocking and de-cocking system, ACUslide, that increases safety and reduces premature wear on the cams and cables.

Specs

  • Weight: 7.5 lbs
  • Velocity: 430 FPS
  • Finish: Moss Green, Vektra
  • Length: 33”
  • Width (uncocked): 6.5”
  • Width (cocked): 11”
  • Power Stroke: 13”

Benefits

The accuracy of the new TenPoint Viper 430, combined with the 30 FPS increase in speed over the previous model, make this a highly impressive and incredible value-for-money crossbow. The improvements to accuracy and scoping are ideal for instilling confidence in new and more experienced hunters looking to hone their skills.

Drawbacks

Like with the Flatline 460, the only potential drawback is that the newly designed scope struts are not backwards compatible meaning you cannot use parts on an older model.

Best Value Entry-Level Crossbow: Titan De-Cock at $999

Overview

The TenPoint Titan De-Cock may be 2 years old but it is still the most advanced entry-level crossbow on the market in 2023. It continues to represent incredible value for anybody getting into crossbow hunting.

Coming in at $999.99 with ACUdraw 50 and $1099.99 with ACUdraw De-Cock, it is at the upper limit of what we would consider an entry-level crossbow. That said, we are big believers that if you invest in quality equipment, you will get so much more pleasure from it for years to come.

Features

The crossbow butt-plate is adjustable to make the Titan De-Cock suitable for just about any user, regardless of their size. We have found this to be a particularly good feature for female and younger hunters who typically struggle to shoot in a comfortable position. The cam system gives a power stroke of 14 inches, meaning it is more than capable as a powerful crossbow.

The addition of the ACUdraw De-Cock as a stock upgrade is a huge selling point for this crossbow. The simplicity and safety of the system appeals to first-time crossbow users and seasoned hunters alike.

Specs

  • Weight: 6.4 lbs
  • Velocity: 380 FPS
  • Finish: Vektra
  • Length: 32.5”
  • Width (uncocked): 9”
  • Width (cocked): 14”
  • Power Stroke: 14”

Benefits

While the crossbow doesn’t feature the more advanced ACUslide cocking system, the ACUdraw De-Cock is incredibly easy to use and ensures safe cocking and de-cocking of the bow. For any level of user, it also means that you can avoid shooting an arrow if you have already cocked the bow. This stops excess strain on the strings and cables.

The TenPoint Titan De-Cock is also super lightweight, at a mere 6.4 lbs.

Drawbacks

Other than not really being a “budget crossbow”, the only drawback we can note is that the factory scope is non-speed rated. There are multi-line reticles (sighted in at 20 yards) and the following reticles do not line up in perfect 10-yard increments.

However, if you purchase your TenPoint Titan De-Cock through Borkholder Archery, it comes with around $110 of add-on credits meaning you can upgrade to the TenPoint RangeMaster Pro Scope.

What Should I Choose?

All three of these TenPoint crossbows are excellent choices for their price bracket and they each represent something for every type of hunter.

The Titan De-Cock and Viper 430 are traditional forward-draw design. The Flatline 460 is a reverse-draw crossbow that is significantly shorter and quieter than the conventional design.

Some hunters prefer one system, some the other, it’s a personal choice.

Newer users often appreciate the stability and lighter weight of a forward-draw crossbow. The only downside is that the extra length means they can be a little more awkward to maneuver.

If you’re looking for a super compact and lightweight crossbow, the TenPoint Flatline 460 is sure to impress.

Measure Arrow Length - Carbon to Carbon

Why Equalizing the Weight of Non-Lighted Arrows is Important

When choosing Firenock lighted nocks you have an option use the weight match nock system.

There is roughly a 23 grain difference when adding Firenock lighted nocks. It can result in lower impacted points at distances of 30 yards and beyond, and also change your front of center percentages.

There is a simulated weight that attaches to your nock just the same as the lighted nock that will make all of the nocks weigh the same. This will ensure your arrows all fly the same.
